What is Aikido?
Aikido is an art of self-defense which emphasizes body movement, throws, takedowns, and joint locks. When using Aikido properly, violent aggression can be neutralized swiftly and cleanly so that effective self-defense is possible without inflicting injury. This modern Japanese martial art was developed by Morihei Ueshiba as a synthesis of his martial studies, philosophy, and religious beliefs.
Aikido is more than a physical art. Within its techniques are woven elements of philosophy, psychology, and human dynamics. It is a way of life that unifies life energy (Ki), being in harmony with one's environment and being centered within oneself. At its highest levels, it is an effective discipline for the development, integration, and utilization of all of one's powers - mental as well as physical
Like most other Aikido schools, we use spoken Japanese vocabularuto name Aikido techniques which are learned as part of training.
